The Runaway Child

The Runaway Child

Adapted from The Runaway Bunny, Psalm 139:5-10, and LifeWay MasterWork Lessons

Once there was a child of God who wanted to run away. So he said to his Creator, “I’m running away from you.”

“If you run away,” said his Creator, “I will run after you. For you are my dear child. You are the works of my hands (Ps. 138:8), and I watch over your coming and your going (Ps. 121:8). No height or depth – absolutely nothing – can separate you from my love (Rom. 8:35, 39). I will pursue you because I love you more than you know. I know what it takes to get your attention. I want you to know who I AM. I always have your best interest at heart – for I created your heart and know what will make it whole and complete. I want an intimate relationship with you. Run to me. If you seek me, you will see my invisible hand at work in your life. If you believe me, your disbelief will vanish. Persevere and endure so you can encourage your friends. This is part of My plan for your life – for you to reflect My glory and tell others what I’ve done especially for you.”

“Shucks,” said the child of God. “I might as well not run away from you, but run toward You to be and become all You want me to be. The ‘me’ I can’t be or do by myself.”

And so he did.

“Have your rewards,” said the Creator. “The blessings I’ve prepared and planned just for you since before the world began (Eph. 2:10) – rewards that are too numerous to declare (Ps. 40:5). They’re waiting on you.”
